WOODBRIDGE- Linocut for Textiles Workshop (April)

WOODBRIDGE- Linocut for Textiles Workshop (April)

from £70.00

Workshop Venue: The Pavilion, Melton, Woodbridge, Suffolk

Timing: 10am-3.30pm Sunday 27th April

A lovely introduction to both lino cutting, a printmaking process, and creating your own printed textiles! On this course Lydia will talk through the basic techniques of linocut and tips for fabric in particular. This workshop is open to all levels from complete beginners to those with printing experience.

On this course Lydia will talk through the basic techniques, how the materials work and what you need (including where to get it) to complete the course and carry on linocutting and printing fabric at home.

The method is very straight-forward, accessible for all abilities and easy to do at home… as printing goes, it’s pretty un-messy too! You will have the opportunity to explore your own designs and mix your own colours as well as using Lydia’s own linocuts and woodcut printing blocks. If you have your own woodcut blocks you are welcome to bring these too, just make sure they are clearly labelled or you have a photograph of yours so they don’t get muddled.

Everyone will get 1 blank white cotton tea towel and 1 canvas tote bag to print on. If you’d like to bring other fabrics to print, including clothing, please do.

Those who select and pay for a kit will get the following to take home to continue to play: *5 Lino-cutting Tools * 2 pieces of Soft-Cut Lino * 1 Inking Tray *3 paint sponges * 50ml fabric paint.

Course Level: Suitable for Complete Beginners but also Intermediate – those with some printing experience.

How to Get There: Melton Recreation Ground is on Melton Road, Woodbridge. There is a car park at the Recreation Ground entrance. The nearest train station is Melton (1/2 a mile) and buses run along Melton Road.

A fab opportunity at Tracey’s Sewing Room in Dorking.. Lydia will teach you how to print to fabric using wooden and lino printing blocks, and in a later class Tracey can teach you to sew the cushion together, with intricacies such as piping etc… (ps Tracey’s Sew an Overlapped Cushion Cover Class will be Saturday afternoon 22nd  June  2-5pm, see her website for details)

Printing to fabrics is a fab way of imprinting your unique style on accessories that can adorn your home or take out and about with you. This workshop is a perfect way to give fabric printing a try and have fun, and create a print on your own cushion front-piece. Everyone will have scrap fabric to practise on, as well as a 45cm square piece of fabric (a choice of linen or cotton) to print. This can then be sewn into a cushion at a later date with the accoutrements of your choice.

The Block Printing workshop is hosted by Lydia, a fabric printer, maker and dressmaker from Suffolk. Lydia runs her own microbusiness printing and making personal and home accessories inspired by the corner of Coast and Country where she lives. Her prints are adorned with hares and seedheads, as well as Lobsters, Crabs and Mermaids. With her experience and guidance you'll spend the afternoon printing using her huge range of wooden printing blocks and linocut designs, with a rainbow of paint colours to play and experiment with. A great creative way to spend an afternoon and go away with new skills that can take you on to all sorts of places.
