GLASGOW - Linocut for Textiles

£70.00

Workshop Venue: The Blue Room, the Boardwalk, Brunswick Street, Glasgow

Timing: 10am-4pm

Linocut is a very accessible creative form, easy to learn and produces great results, and which lends itself to the most simple and the most intricate of images. It’s also very flexible and easy to do at home.

Lydia will guide you through the basics of using Linocut tools to carve your designs, the kinds of resources available and methods for printing to fabric.. you then have the whole day to create, play and explore. There will be ample fabric to test on, a rainbow of paints to use and Lydia’s own print blocks available to experiment with.

All materials and tools for the workshop will be provided. In addition, everyone will have a blank cotton tea towel and tote OR 4 Cotton napkins to print and take home at the end of the workshop.

Additional Blanks will be available to buy in the workshop. You can also bring fabric or garments to try printing onto if you like (natural fibres ideally - synthetics don't take the paint so well)

There is an additional option to buy a Take Home Linocut Kit which includes 5 linocut tools, 2 pieces of 15 Softcut Lino, an Inking tray, 3 paint sponges and 50ml of fabric paint of your choice from Lydia’s collection. £30/

A fab opportunity at Tracey’s Sewing Room in Dorking.. Lydia will teach you how to print to fabric using wooden and lino printing blocks, and in a later class Tracey can teach you to sew the cushion together, with intricacies such as piping etc… (ps Tracey’s Sew an Overlapped Cushion Cover Class will be Saturday afternoon 22nd  June  2-5pm, see her website for details)

Printing to fabrics is a fab way of imprinting your unique style on accessories that can adorn your home or take out and about with you. This workshop is a perfect way to give fabric printing a try and have fun, and create a print on your own cushion front-piece. Everyone will have scrap fabric to practise on, as well as a 45cm square piece of fabric (a choice of linen or cotton) to print. This can then be sewn into a cushion at a later date with the accoutrements of your choice.

The Block Printing workshop is hosted by Lydia, a fabric printer, maker and dressmaker from Suffolk. Lydia runs her own microbusiness printing and making personal and home accessories inspired by the corner of Coast and Country where she lives. Her prints are adorned with hares and seedheads, as well as Lobsters, Crabs and Mermaids. With her experience and guidance you'll spend the afternoon printing using her huge range of wooden printing blocks and linocut designs, with a rainbow of paint colours to play and experiment with. A great creative way to spend an afternoon and go away with new skills that can take you on to all sorts of places.
